Carl's Roost:
Day 16 Observations
Still more of our chicks, from the batch started
the week before the MRI chicks, have hatched
overnight ! More are hatching right now. Watch
here or on "Today's News" for video or photos.
Also coming soon - the sounds of the MRI
machine.
Even though today is the last day of the MRI labs,
the project continues at many schools. Watch here
and on Today's News for new info.
The chick continues to grow - it looks very cramped
in there now!. In some views you can see the beak
poking toward the air sac.
There is a lot of movement -more than yesterday.
The head is moving up to 1 cm over a period of a few
minutes.
MRI: Front views.
Here are some front views. Positions (offset) are
indicated:
In this image you can see a spot between and below
the eyes. This is probably an air passage - either
the mouth or a nasal or sinus passage. It is dark
because there is no longer any fluid in it - the
chick is breathing air from the air cell!
