Chickscope Overview:
Primary School Classroom
The primary school teacher encouraged her 24 students
(half kindergarten, half first grade) to do a wide
variety of projects based on their choosing.
Classroom infrastructure. The classroom had 2
Macintosh IIsi computers with access to the Internet
through the university via T1 connection. During the
entire semester, there was an undergraduate student
assisting the teacher in the classroom. Both the
teacher and the university student attended the
training day.
Sample activities. The students sliced
hard-boiled eggs to see how the MRI system would
"slice" the egg. During MR image acquisitions,
students worked in groups of six to eight students per
group. So, while a group acquired an image on one
computer, another group viewed the just acquired image
on the second computer. The remaining groups worked
on other activities, such as a writing exercise where
they identified the three views (front, top, side) on
the images that were previously acquired by their
class. Figure 2 illustrates sample classroom
activities.
